There is no letter with the value 9. In the Chaldean system 9 is treated as sacred and appears only as a total, never as a letter value. Any chart showing a letter valued at 9 is not Chaldean.
Worked example
Take Apex Media.
A=1, P=8, E=5, X=5 → 19 M=4, E=5, D=4, I=1, A=1 → 15
Compound total: 19 + 15 = 34 Reduce: 3 + 4 = 7
So Apex Media is a 34/7 name — Ketu ruling, suited to research, analysis and specialist work. The compound 34 is neutral: neither favourable nor a warning.
A second example shows why the compound matters. Loan gives L=3, O=7, A=1, N=5 = 16, which reduces to 7 as well. Same single digit, entirely different reading — 16 is one of the five warning compounds, while 34 is neutral. Two 7 names, two different situations.
The Pythagorean chart
Pythagorean numerology runs the alphabet in order and is used alongside Chaldean rather than instead of it.

It produces three numbers rather than one: Expression from all letters, Soul Urge from the vowels, and Personality from the consonants. The Pythagorean calculator computes all three.
Rules most guides get wrong
Do not reduce master numbers. If your compound reduces to 11, 22 or 33 at any stage, stop there. Reducing 11 to 2 discards the reading. Master numbers explained.
Do not drop the compound. Reducing straight to a single digit and discarding the total loses most of the detail. The compound is the more specific number of the two.
Do not include the legal suffix. Adding Pvt Ltd changes the total and produces a number that describes your registration rather than your brand.
Do not mix the two charts. Chaldean values and Pythagorean values cannot be combined in one calculation. Run each system separately. Why they disagree, and which to trust.
Ignore numerals in the name. A name like "24 Seven Traders" is calculated on the letters. Practitioners differ on this, but the majority treat spoken numerals as outside the letter system.
Which name to calculate
Calculate the name customers actually use. If you registered "Sharma Enterprises Private Limited" but everyone says "Sharma Enterprises", calculate the latter.
If you trade under several variants, calculate the one on your signage and website — the version people encounter most.
After the calculation
The number is the start of the reading, not the end of it. Three checks follow:
- Is the compound favourable, neutral or a warning? The full 10 to 99 table.
- Does the single digit suit your industry? All nine numbers ranked and matched to sectors.
- Does it agree with your own numbers? Check the name against your date of birth — the most commonly skipped step, and the one that explains most underperforming names.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I include spaces and punctuation when calculating?
No. Only letters carry values. Spaces, hyphens, ampersands and punctuation are ignored.
What if my business name contains numbers?
Most practitioners calculate on the letters alone and treat numerals as outside the letter-value system. There is no universal agreement on this point, and it is one of the genuine ambiguities in the tradition.
Should I calculate the owner's name too?
